NY Car Club

Ask most native New Yorkers will tell you the one major problem of living in the city is driving in the city. The gridlock, the parking, the taxis; it’s enough to give anybody road rage. Maybe the solution is joining the Manhattan Classic Car Club. It seems like it’s the best way to get around without all the hassle. The real decision is what car to take out for a weekend romp.

Your first pick might be the classic Ferrari. Since 1947, Ferrari cars have won the checkered flag in over five thousand races. Of course sitting in New York traffic might not be the best use of its v12 engine. But once you get out of the city, you’re in for a smooth ride.

If you don’t go with Ferrari maybe you should consider an old school muscle car. Naturally the primo auto in this category is the ’64 Ford Mustang. You’ll definitely turn eyes driving down Broadway in that classic. But don’t discount the new model Mustang. It has all the power and muscle of its predecessor but much easier on the gas mileage.

And you can’t really think about driving around New York without flashing back to the classic car chase from THE FRENCH CONNECTION. To this day it’s still regarded as one of the most thrilling car chases ever put on screen. At one point during the sequence there was a car crash at the intersection of Stillwell Ave. and 86th St. This was a totally unplanned accident but was included because of its realism. The man whose car was hit had just left his house to go to work and had no clue that a car chase was being filmed. Which just goes to show you, anything can happen on the streets of New York.
